I've got all the makings for a wonderful matcha latte recipe for you. It is made with just a few simple ingredients, but I've provided optional add-ins to really take it to the next level if you'd like. This matcha is sugar free, dairy free and can be made vegan, too!

Tools & equipment I recommend for the perfect matcha latte recipe
Here's some other fabulous products I recommend for perfecting your at-home matcha latte recipe game:
- Good quality matcha powder This could be my best tip of them all, and my number 1 go-to is Mizuba matcha. Their culinary grade powder (which is not something I would recommend making lattes with from other brands) is the absolute best. It's so high quality, and you don't need to spend the extra bucks on a ceremonial grade!
- A high-speed blender A game changer in the matcha latte making experience. You will get creamy, dreamy froth and a smooth consistency and texture. Yum!
- Matcha whisk This is great to use whether or not you have a blender. It really breaks apart the clumps well!
- Water thermometer It is very important you do not add scorching water to the matcha, as the leaves from the tea will burn. Be sure to measure the temperature using a thermometer.
- Sifter If you don't have access to a high-speed blender, I highly recommend sifting the matcha through this before mixing it with hot water.
- Frother If you aren't using a blender but feel comfortable spending a few bucks on a frother, I highly recommend this one. There is nothing better than frothy milk in a latte!
- High quality non-dairy milk
I recommend the following: Milkadamia, Elmhurst Milk, New Barn, or Oatly!

How to pick out a good quality matcha powder
Here's the deal. If you aren't interested in buying Mizuba matcha, here are some wonderful tips I have for getting your hands on a high quality matcha. After all, not all matcha brands are created equal and there are several different types, qualities and grades.
- Buy matcha from Japan. They have been perfecting the art of harvesting matcha for a very long time.
- Buy organic matcha. You are going to literally be eating the leaves of the tea, so it's important you aren't consuming tea leaves full of harmful sprays and pesticides.
- Look for those vibrant hues of green! The higher quality matcha powders will be more vibrant in color as well.
- Don't purchase matcha powder from the bulk section. In order to maintain its high quality, matcha needs to be kept away from sunlight and sealed in an airtight vessel.
- Store your matcha powder in an airtight container in the refrigerator. It will last longest by doing so. Be sure to check on it after 6 months or so!
By the way, if you are looking for an ultimate guide to matcha, look no further. My friend Sarah over at Snixy Kitchen has put together a very well researched and executed matcha guide including the answers to questions like:
"What is matcha?" and "What does matcha taste like?" She always gets into the nitty gritty of matcha health benefits and showcases dozens of matcha recipes & more.

Should I drink matcha over coffee?
Well, let me tell you something. I am an avid coffee shop dweller and coffee bean lover. It's not about the caffeine intake for me, but more so about the taste and the routine of it all.
I have been making myself a hot or iced cup of something every morning for many years. A few years back, I found out that my hormones were pretty whackadoodle after going off 7 years of birth control, not to mention my cortisol levels were through the roof.
I figured it was time to trade in my every morning coffee for something that didn't have a direct response on my stress hormones. Incoming: this matcha latte recipe loveliness!
Ever since the simple swap, I've really enjoyed the positive effects. You don't get that deep-seated jolt that coffee can give you with the bizarre come-down. It's more of a mellow energy enhancer, which I can really appreciate.
I would highly recommend this matcha latte recipe and paying attention to how your mind and body respond! 🙂

Here, you can see all of my favorite things to add to my matcha latte recipe.
You of course don't need to follow suit, as this is just a combination of ingredients that I have found most enjoyable and the tastiest over the course of my matcha drinking journey.
I add ghee because it gives the latte a nice roundness and smoothness, in addition to high quality fat content!
The cinnamon is lovely and something that I have been adding to my morning drinks for years. I love that it aids in leveling off blood sugar levels, too... a huge bonus!
The maca powder is something I use for its ability to help me with managing my cortisol levels. You can read all about maca powder and its many benefits here!
Feel free to add a teaspoon or two of sweetener (like pure honey or monk fruit if that's your jam and you want to keep it low carb!)

What about drinking matcha during pregnancy?
I sure did. You should ultimately talk to your health practitioner about this, as I am not here to dish out medical advice. However, I would also not recommend abstaining from caffeine while pregnant and re-introducing it post baby.
From what I understand and have gathered from my research is this: If you had a little bit of caffeine every day while pregnant, there is nothing wrong with continuing to do so post baby or while nursing.
You won't be shocking your system / baby because it isn't something new-- make sense? Again, I'd consult with your practitioner, but that is just some friendly mama to mama advice.
In fact, while I was pregnant, I was really doubling up on collagen peptides. I wrote an entire post about collagen benefits during pregnancy actually.
The entire first trimester, I could not stand the sight of animal protein. I ended up having a full serving of collagen both mornings and nights to try and make up for this (on some level!)
