This Star Wars inspired drink has been revamped and made healthier for you at home. It's Star Wars blue milk made with ginger, honey, and blue spirulina. Incredibly tasty and kid friendly!
Galaxy Edge Blue Milk
Alright, so full disclosure: we went to Disneyland for the first time a few months back. I was talked into trying the Galaxy Edge Blue Milk, and I thought it was... decent.
After trying it and returning back home, I knew I wanted to recreate it and make it more palatable and with better ingredients.
When tasting it at Disneyland, the only flavor I could really make out was tropical punch or something like it.
I didn't love that it was not a naturally occurring flavor, so I knew I was going to put my own spin on things at home.
The gorgeous blue color comes from blue food coloring, but that is something that can very easily be achieved with one ingredient:
This stuff is a nutritional powerhouse. There are so many benefits, and it packs a punch in just a small, small amount.
What is it? It's a blue-green algae that is full of magnesium, thiamine, niacin, copper, and iron just to name a few.
I think it tastes delicious, and I absolutely love adding it to smoothies or stirring it into my oats or yogurt.
What's really awesome is how delicious the flavor is when complemented with ginger powder and lemon zest.
You can get creative with whatever milks/alternative milks in this recipe, but I do not recommend substituting for the lemon zest or ginger.
I've even turned this Star Wars blue milk into a cocktail-- more to come on that later! ๐
The original recipe at Disneyland has a slush-like quality, as it's blended with ice.
I decided to pour mine over ice instead because I wanted it to be bold in flavor and not watered down.
If you do not have access to blue spirulina powder at a local market, you can grab it on Amazon.
However, this can also be made with regular spirulina which is technically more of a green shade.
The taste won't be heavily effected, but it will obviously be closer to green in color than blue.
Next up, we will more than likely do a rendition of the yellow one. Stay tuned for that.
How to make Star Wars Blue Milk
This recipe is so quick and easy to make. All you need is a blender, some ice, and lots of excitement.
Okay, here we go:
- Add everything into a blender pitcher.
- Blend on high for 30 seconds until smooth throughout.
- Add a large handful of ice cubes into a glass. Pour drink over the ice cubes and enjoy cold.
Recipe substitutions
Milk: I do not recommend replacing the canned coconut milk, as it brings a special flavor to the drink.
You can however use any regular or non dairy milk for the other milk component so long as it isn't flavored or sweetened.
Everything else should be kept as is to maintain the integrity and flavors of the recipe.
